APG collect and display key performance metrics for different types of servers.
Data is collected from the SNMP agent installed on the server, either it can be the native agent coming with the operating system – ie Windows SNMP service – or a specific SNMP proprietary agent. When APG is used in conjunction with EMC SMARTS Server Performance Manager, APG automatically synchronize topology and data collection, thus eliminating double-polling on the network.
Various predefined reports are available such as server health, summary reports for a group of servers, capacity planning, topN, exceptions and inventory.
Collected metrics include server availability over time, CPU, memory, swap, file-system utilization, disks and network traffic. Analysis is also performed to calculate the baseline – in order to detect a-typical behaviour – and trending – in order to predict the evolution for the coming weeks and months based on the previous patterns.
